Workshops, Classes and Educational Materials
Getting students from the Urban Prairie Waldorf School ready for a full day workshop at Marquette Park Aquatorium. 2024
Learn about some of the hundreds of wild edible plants in the Calumet Region and Indiana Dunes. These plants have been utilized by humans for thousands of years, for food, medicine, dyes, and building materials. In our workshops/classes you will learn about how our area became a global biodiversity hotspot through Native American stewardship which enriched the complex ecosystems already present.
You will learn how to identify some important locally native plants and how to use them in your daily life. Offered all year, except January. Different plants highlighted seasonally.
Workshops can be customized, but are generally 2 – 3 hours long. They include historical information, practical instruction and tasting, usually in the form of teas/drink and snacks.
Classes are customized to meet clients’ needs, but always ensure participants experience the outstanding biodiversity and seasonal variety of different foods and medicines in our uniquely abundant area.
